LA Market Week: My Suitcase

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

It’s approximately 6:15am EST and I am on a flight to LA for Market Week. Although I am a definitely a morning person, no one likes to hear their alarm go off at 3:30am. Two things however, have made my day get off to a wonderful start – 1. I got upgraded to first class and 2. there is Internet on the plane, so being in an extremely chipper mood I thought what better thing to do then write a blog…

I have only been to LA once before, which I hardly even count because it was only for a 7 hour layover to Australia. With only a few hours to spare, I grabbed a cab and went straight to Rodeo Drive. It was incredibly early in the morning so I enjoyed a coffee and took in the scene. It was exactly what I expected – beautiful boutiques, cute cafés and gorgeous people. I ended up buying this lovely white lace Catherine Malandrino dress at Ron Herman and had to call it a day. This was 4 years ago and I have been dying to go back ever since. Here a few pics from that day…

With that tiny glimpse of LA in person and my recollection of the countless adorable outfits worn on The Hills, I began to plan my attire for the week. I tend to gravitate toward a very exciting palette of black and white, but I thought I’d embrace the carefree spirit of sunny California and go for a brighter more whimsical wardrobe. I recently purchased the Blaque Label Silk Wrap Dress in Royal, the Elizabeth & James Daria Silk Print Top (yes, the one from the email blast), and the Current/Elliott Scout Short, which I would pair with 7 For All Mankind skinny jeans and a Nation tee respectively.

With only 3 outfits decided upon, I grabbed Alaina and Jamie and we headed back into the chickdowntown closet. Alaina suggested the PJK Maybell Dress and the PJK Harlow Long Sleeve Blouse in Blush with theAlice + Olivia Butterfly Shorts. Jamie grabbed the Elizabeth and James Jane Pointy Toe Flats in Bone and the NightCap Peekaboo Leggings to accessorize with. I loved everything, but the butterfly shorts were just a touch too short for a business trip…who am I kidding – I could just use a few more trips to the gym, but they are super cute! Anyway, after a little dent in my bank account and because I wanted to save some $$ for LA, I decided I have to raid my own closet for the rest of my outfits. I purchased the Bensimon Sneakers in Taupe in the spring and I have something very similar to the Elizabeth and James Jade T-Strap Sandals to complete my looks.

Be sure to check back for a recap of my trip. If you have any LA hot spot suggestions (restaurants, bars, must-sees), please let me know!
