Hot Spring Trend: Denim

And we’re not talking jeans…

A few weeks ago, a friend came to me for some fashion advice (nothing out of the ordinary). She said that her friend from London told her that jean jackets were exploding and asked if it was the same way in the US. Not recalling an overwhelming revival of denim other than in it’s natural form, I responded, “Not that I am aware of.” Well, it was as if someone smacked me in the face when I walked into Bergdorfs in NYC last weekend and every designer had their signature piece in denim. From PRADA handbags to an Akris suit to Christian Louboutin pumps (!!!) to a Burberry trench, every line that we love is featuring their “IT” item in this trendy textile. I mean M.A.C. even made it into a makeup (called Jeanius – how cute), so I should have seen this coming. So ladies, dig out those jean jackets and splurge on one piece that you never expected to see in denim. Hopefully history won’t repeat itself and it will look a hell of a lot better than it did in the 80s! Below is my must-have of the moment: the Current/Elliott Circle Vest. Happy Friday!

Manolo Shoes

Today’s CDT Sale Spotlight, highlights one of the most coveted designer shoe labels of our time – thanks in large part to Carrie Bradshaw on “Sex and the City” – Manolo Blahnik. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the episode when Carrie was mugged in an alleyway and she pleaded to the guy, “Please sir. You can take my Fendi baguette, you can take my ring and my watch, but don’t take my Manolo Blahniks.” Well ladies, today CDT is making this sought-after shoe collection available to you at up to 67% off! Since it seems like neons are all the rage for SS11, I thought I ‘d channel the runways and Ms. Bradshaw for my top 3 must-haves of the moment:

Manolo Blahnik was born in 1942 in the Canary Islands, where he grew up on a banana plantation. He credits his love for footwear to his mother. She would persuade the Canary shoe maker to teach her how to make Catalan espadrilles, as they would otherwise have to travel to Paris or Madrid to find luxury goods. Manolo loved to watch her use the delicate fabrics to create her little works of art. After a long period of working in boutiques, despite the fact that his parents sent him to school to be a diplomat, Manolo was luckily set up to meet the editor of the US Vogue, Diana Vreeland. She fell in love with his accessories sketches, particularly his shoe drawings, and urged him to focus on footwear. He began designing men’s shoes for Zapata in London in 1972. One year later, WWD called him, “one of the most exotic spirits in London.” Following this accolade, he launched his own collection for Bloomingdales in 1978 and opened his own boutique on Madison Avenue in NYC one year later. From there he exploded and began designing shoes for Perry Ellis and Calvin Klein, then went on to do several collaborations with Isaac Mizrahi, John Galliano, Bill Blass, and Caroline Herrera to name a few. In 2000 “Manolo Blahnik” became a “household name” due to the popularity of the HBO series, “Sex and the City”.

Lacoste Watches

There is just something about that little crocodile that I can’t help but love. Best known for its polos, Lacoste has now expanded to include a full apparel collection, as well as some highly coveted accessories, including one of our favorite categories – watches. In today’s CDT Sale Spotlight, you can shop a selection of preppy chic timepieces and save over 50% off!

Lacoste

As I was researching the Lacoste crocodile, I discovered that not only was Lacoste the first company to embroider a logo on its clothing, but it is the first company to create an initiative to support the “face” behind the brand. Named the <<Save Your Logo>> campaign, the intent is to have private companies and institutions contribute to the preservation of their mascot. In 1927 when Rene Lacoste chose the crocodile as the emblem, he never anticipated that the crocodile would be threatened to one day disappear. Today, through Save Your Logo, Lacoste is committed to protecting the reptile that has represented the company for over 80 years.
