Today’s CDT Sale Spotlight, highlights one of the most coveted designer shoe labels of our time – thanks in large part to Carrie Bradshaw on “Sex and the City” – Manolo Blahnik. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the episode when Carrie was mugged in an alleyway and she pleaded to the guy, “Please sir. You can take my Fendi baguette, you can take my ring and my watch, but don’t take my Manolo Blahniks.” Well ladies, today CDT is making this sought-after shoe collection available to you at up to 67% off! Since it seems like neons are all the rage for SS11, I thought I ‘d channel the runways and Ms. Bradshaw for my top 3 must-haves of the moment:

Manolo Blahnik was born in 1942 in the Canary Islands, where he grew up on a banana plantation. He credits his love for footwear to his mother. She would persuade the Canary shoe maker to teach her how to make Catalan espadrilles, as they would otherwise have to travel to Paris or Madrid to find luxury goods. Manolo loved to watch her use the delicate fabrics to create her little works of art. After a long period of working in boutiques, despite the fact that his parents sent him to school to be a diplomat, Manolo was luckily set up to meet the editor of the US Vogue, Diana Vreeland. She fell in love with his accessories sketches, particularly his shoe drawings, and urged him to focus on footwear. He began designing men’s shoes for Zapata in London in 1972. One year later, WWD called him, “one of the most exotic spirits in London.” Following this accolade, he launched his own collection for Bloomingdales in 1978 and opened his own boutique on Madison Avenue in NYC one year later. From there he exploded and began designing shoes for Perry Ellis and Calvin Klein, then went on to do several collaborations with Isaac Mizrahi, John Galliano, Bill Blass, and Caroline Herrera to name a few. In 2000 “Manolo Blahnik” became a “household name” due to the popularity of the HBO series, “Sex and the City”.
